Uniform
The Epsom Downs Community School uniform is practical but smart, and we expect all of our children to wear it neatly and with pride. Children are expected to arrive at and leave school in correct uniform (including black school shoes and white or black socks) and represent the school positively when out in the community wearing their uniform.

Shoes, Jewellery and Valuables
School Shoes and Trainers
- Sensible black school shoes or black trainers without logos should be worn at all times. Open toe sandals, jellies, shoes with heels, or boots are not acceptable.
Jewellery, Hair Ornaments, Make-up and Nail Varnish
For health and safety reasons we do not allow children to wear jewellery. The exceptions to this rule are earring studs in pierced ears, and small objects of religious significance. Children are required to remove any items during PE lessons to prevent them from causing injury. Staff members are not permitted to remove earrings. Hair bands, ribbons/bows or ‘scrunchies’ should be plain burgundy or black. Hairbands should not have large flowers attached. Make up and nail varnish should not be worn to school unless for a function out of school hours, for example a school disco. Extreme hairstyles are not appropriate for school. Use of styling products should be kept to a minimum.
Children must not wear any earrings including stud earrings for PE / swimming
- Earrings must be removed by the child for PE.
- Wearing plasters over the earrings is not permitted.
- No member of staff is permitted to remove a child’s earrings
In the interests of safety, children will not be allowed to take part in PE lessons if they are wearing earrings of any kind. This is in accordance with Surrey County Council Health & Safety Policy.
Valuables
If a child is found to have other jewellery, or valuables including a mobile phone, s/he will be asked to hand it into the office for safe keeping. The item may be collected at the end of the school day, but a reminder will sent home that bringing valuables to school is not acceptable.
