Epsom Downs Day Nursery provides nurturing and individualised childcare for children aged 3 months to 5 years. Our excellent local reputation and our flexible approach to offering morning, afternoon or full-day sessions create a high demand for places.

The Day Nursery is open plan, where children aged 0–5 years can interact and play together throughout the day. This is one of our key features and stands us apart from other nurseries. This open-plan environment supports smooth transitions, enhances the quality of children’s social interactions, supports the speech and language development of younger children, enables children to play with siblings and allows each child to follow their own personal journey of discovery.

For babies, there is a separate designated area positioned centrally within the main nursery, allowing babies to watch and observe the older children playing around them. Although babies have a dedicated space where they can feel secure and where their individual needs can be met, they are not restricted to this area and are supported to access the wider nursery provision when appropriate. This enables babies to explore different spaces, interact with children of different ages, develop relationships with familiar adults and experience a wider range of play opportunities, while staff ensure that their individual developmental stage and safety needs are always considered.

The spacious baby area provides room for rolling and crawling, with resources rotated regularly to provide stimulation and interest. Babies are supported to develop their climbing, standing and walking skills through a range of age-appropriate opportunities and experiences. Babies have designated baby staff who stay with them throughout the day, providing familiarity, stability and comfort.

The Day Nursery has a sensory room, a separate sleep room, children’s toilets, a nappy bathroom with access to a toilet for toilet training and a large dining room. Children have a range of activities to choose from, as well as music and movement sessions, and older children have opportunities to participate in wellbeing activities.

The Day Nursery promotes the importance of outdoor play by providing free flow to the outdoor areas throughout the day. We share excellent outdoor facilities with the school, including the farm, sports field, playground and activity maze. In addition, we have a secure outdoor play area and a large back garden. Children are encouraged to play outside all year round, with our weatherproof canopy providing protection in all weathers.

Health and safety is a top priority, not only for children who attend the nursery, but also for staff and visitors. Risk assessments are carried out daily and a key fob entry system operates on all external gates and doors. CCTV is also in operation throughout the site.
