Year 2
The Year 2 classes are Willow and Chestnut.
In Year 2 we encourage children to be independent, producing imaginative and innovative work using the skills they developed in Year 1. Learning is theme-based and brought to life with topics such as Dungeons & Dragons, Voyage into the Unknown, Day and Night and A Wonderful World.
Your child will spend time exploring the world around them through outdoor learning and exciting class trips.
English is an important focus with daily lessons in spelling, writing and reading. Children are required to read at home every evening and parents are asked to sign their child's reading record so that the class teacher can monitor progress. Children will also receive weekly spellings to practice at home.
This year we are also starting our Author of the Term Challenge, this encourages the children to explore the author we are focusing on in class more at home. Therefore, a list of voluntary challenges will be sent out at the start of each half term. The children will receive tokens for completing these challenges.
Maths is taught daily and the children are tested on the 2, 5 and 10 times table, as well as counting in threes.
All parents are invited to the termly Parent Consultation evening where they can discuss their child's progress and development, and the curriculum. For any immediate concerns, class teachers are available after school or by appointment.
